Small Forwards

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Saturday 11 November 2006 at 2:52 pm

Tracy McGrady will be playing small forward this season for the Rockets.  Last season T-Mac averaged 24.4 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game.  The Rockets hope that playing forward will lessen the strain on T-Mac’s back because he won’t have to handle the ball as much as he did last season.  McGrady is very athletic and will be a mis-match for the Rockets against most teams.  McGrady has averaged 22.2 points, 6.4 rebounds,  4.4 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.1 blocks per game over his NBA career.

Rookie Steve Novak might get a chance to earn some minutes at small forward.  He’s a good 3-point shooter.

Look for Bonzi Wells and Chuck Hayes to play some minutes at small forward for the Rockets.

Yao leads Rockets to 103-94 win over the Knicks

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Saturday 11 November 2006 at 12:35 pm

The Rockets shot 54.8% from the floor and out-rebounded the Knicks 45-33 last night and those were key factors in the victory.  The real reason for the win was the dominating play of their center Yao.  Yao had 35 points, 17 rebounds & 7 blocked shots!  T-Mac added 13 points, 4 rebounds and 8 assists.  Rafer Alston did a good job at the point with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists.  Shane Battier pitched in with 12 points & 5 assists.  Chuck Hayes played well with 10 points and 6 rebounds.  Luther Head had a fine game off of the bench with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.

The Rockets are turning into Yao’s team right before our very eyes.  He could be the new dominant center in the NBA and that’s great news for Rockets fans.  The Rockets are now 4-2 on the season.

Rockets hold off the Bucks 97-93

The Rockets built up a 76-59 lead after 3 quarters, but had to hold on for the victory after the Bucks made a late run at them.  Tracy McGrady had a great game with 32 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 blocked shots.  Yao had a solid game with 23 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists.  Rafer Alston (12 points & 9 assists) and Dikembe Mutombo (10 points & 8 rebounds) each made big contributions to the victory.

Any road win is a big one, as the Rockets move to 3-2.

The Rockets dominated the boards out-rebounding the Grizzlies 45-33 and holding Memphis to 40% shooting from the floor.  Yao had another good game with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks.  T-Mac had a decent game with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists.  Chuck Hayes had a solid game with 12 points and 11 rebounds.  Shane Battier was hustling all over the court and had 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals.  Rafer Alston pitched in with 10 points.

This was a nice road win for the Rockets.

Rockets look flat and lose 96-90 to Hornets

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Monday 6 November 2006 at 1:19 am

The Rockets looked flat today after beating the Mavericks last night.  The Rockets only scored 15 points in the first quarter, and never recovered.  Shane Battier scored 18 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, dished out 5 assists and stole the ball 3 times.  Yao had another solid game with 17 points and 10 rebounds, but he was in foul trouble in the first half.  T-Mac scored 14 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and dished out 7 assists.  Rafer Alston (13 points), Luther Head (10 points) and Chuck Hayes (4 points & 10 rebounds) all pitched in for the Rockets.
