Point Guards

Rafer Alston has worked his way up, from playground legend to starting point guard in the NBA.  Alston is a good 3-point shooter (35.6%), but he has problems with defense and shot selection.  Alston is a good passer (4.6 assists per game for career) and the Rockets would be better off if he passed the ball a little bit more.  Alston only has averaged 8.9 points per game for his career, but he was a back-up for a long time.

Bobby Sura is a good back-up that provides instant energy off of the bench.  The Rockets hope that he will soon have a full recovery from surgery on his knee and will be able to give them 10-15 minutes per game.  Sura has averaged 23.7 minutes per game in his 657 career games.  Sura has averaged 8.6 points per game, 3.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists for his career.

Bobby Sura still rehabbing

Bobby Sura is still rehabbing from microsurgery on his knee and is facing an uphill battle to make the Rockets roster.  Sura is out indefinately, which is a shame for him as he had played well for the Rockets before his injury.

Jeff Van Gundy

Jeff Van Gundy is a decent coach, but he never seems to be able to get his team to rise above their talent level.  Van Gundy has a record of 130-116 with the Rockets despite having Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming on his team.  In 10 seasons as an NBA head coach, Van Gundy has a record of 378-288.

Van Gundy is only 4-8 in the playoffs as the Rockets coach.  In 8 playoff appearances for his career, Van Gundy is 41-40.
